Haunted Fish Tank Ltd was established in 2002 to offer collectors of popular fiction memorabilia an easy to use service in finding rare, original and modern collectibles. We soon realised the potential to spread to a wider market by bringing to its customers a range of products encompassing the home entertainment needs of our modern society. Within the Haunted Fish Tank website the customer can find film, television, literature, collectibles and gadgets for every occasion available at the click of a mouse.
Haunted Fish Tank Ltd prides itself on customer service and will endeavour to assist its customers in searching for products that may not be listed within the website providing they fall within a product category sold by Haunted Fish Tank Ltd.
Where have we been since May 2005?
Earlier this year, The Haunted Fish Tank's web server died very suddenly. The hard disk decided one evening to stop working completely. Our server host quickly informed us of this fact and installed a new hard disk in our server within hours. The trouble was, all our data was on the old hard disk. This should not have been a problem, however, as our server has backups taken frequently. But the problem with the hard disk meant that our backups were not taken correctly and all of our backups that our host had kept were redundant. Needless to say we were not happy!
Our server provider then shipped off our broken hard disk for data recovery. After several weeks, we were told that the hard disk was beyond repair and all our data would be lost. They were told to find another data recovery specialist quickly that could do the job properly!
By mid-July the second data recovery company sent us a list of files that they could salvage from the drive. It looked very promising until it became apparent that crucially missing from the file listing was our database! Without our database, the site could not run. The data recovery people were told to salvage the files that they could and to try and find the databases.
For some unknown reason this part of the process seemed to take forever. Then on the 1st October we received some of our files back. But, the data sent to us did not contain all of our files for the web site - in fact we were only sent the missing databases (which fortunately were completely in tact!) By now our M.D. had lost his patience with the data recovery company and our server provider and quickly demanded that the recovery team try again to recover our missing files. Sadly though, within 72 hours it appeared the disk had suffered enough through all of the salvage attempts and the data has been lost - forever...
But, whilst all this was happening, our programmer Gideon had searched through all of our computers and backup CD's and found around 95% of the files needed for the site. In the last few weeks, he's been working almost every hour of every day and restored our site to its former glory - and even had the chance to work on some of the changes that we had planned for this year. Our thanks must go out to him to get the site back online in time for Xmas!
